Accident insurance
More security in the event of accident
The Studierendenwerk München Oberbayern has joined the collective framework agreement of the DSW (German National Association for Student Affairs), through which several other Studierendenwerke have also secured accident insurance for their students. All students (no guest students) who are matriculated at one of the universities the Studierendenwerk München Oberbayern is in charge of have been covered by this insurance since the winter semester 2022/23, i.e. since 1 October 2022.
The insurance covers accidents that happen to the insured person during internships or while performing activities in preparation for exams for their studies off campus.
The insurance only covers accidents that occur without a third party being involved, i.e. injuries that were not caused by others.
Accidents that occur while performing a profession or trade – also as a working student – for which the respective employer’s liability insurance association is responsible in accordance with the SGB VII are also insured, as long as the activity is part of the individual’s exam preparations.
The insurance also covers students who spend one or two semesters abroad. The terms and conditions remain the same as for students attending the university in Germany. Additionally, matriculated students who are part of the “Erasmus Programme” are also insured during their internship or semester abroad for a maximum of 24 months. Internships or other activities that are not directly related to your studies are excluded.
The following is covered by the insurance:
- disability with progression 225%
- total disability (100% disability)
- death benefit
- cosmetic surgery
- rescue costs
The amount depends on the individual case.
