Homesharing – "Wohnen für Hilfe"

Read out and MP3 download   Read out

The homeshare project “Wohnen für Hilfe” was established in the winter semester 1996/97 by the Studierendenwerk München Oberbayern and the organisation Beinander e.V. The project enables students to live with senior citizens for free. In return, the students help the elderly people in their everyday life.

A rough idea of homesharing: 1 m² living space = 1 hour of assistance per month
Any utility costs agreed on are paid on a monthly basis.

Type of assistance
The type of help agreed upon between the people offering accommodation and the students can concern all areas of everyday life. For example, students help do the shopping, the housekeeping or help out in the garden, go along to the doctor’s or for a walk in the park – simply, whatever is agreed upon.

Please note with regard to taxes
Although the project “Wohnen für Hilfe” is not focused on generating income, the financial benefits of being exempt from having to pay rent may be relevant for your taxes, with duties such as shopping or the like being classified as a “Minijob”. We therefore recommend that you seek advice if you have any questions on taxes or social security. You can get more detailed information from a tax consultant, the tax office in charge of your income tax payment or also from the “Minijobzentrale”.
