As part of cultureclubbing and in cooperation with the Studierendenwerk München Oberbayern, the Lenbachhaus will be presenting the exhibition "Shifting the Silence" and will also entertain you with music and drinks.
The Lenbachhaus will thus be opening its doors exclusively for students for one evening!
Exhibition: “Shifting the Silence” curated by Eva Huttenlauch and Matthias Mühling in the Lenbachhaus
"Shifting the Silence" is the title of Etel Adnan's last book, published in 2021. The German translation "Die Stille verschieben" was published posthumously in 2022. Recognizably writing at the end of her life, Etel Adnan offers melancholy, poetic, and very personal thoughts on major themes of life.
The exhibition embraces a central concern of "Shifting the Silence": reflecting on the difficulty of fully verbalizing works of visual art and making them tangible. Linguization—i.e. the translation of artworks and aesthetic experiences into words and language—poses a challenge in many respects. Language is not only a means of communication, it is also limited and sometimes even a hindrance when it comes to conveying complex impressions and perceptions.
Etel Adnan suggests "shifting" silence – in other words, expanding the boundaries of what can be said and not rationalizing the poetic nature of the many forms of expression in the arts, but accepting it as an intrinsic value.
We will also be inviting you to drop in at the Atrium of the Lenbachhaus to enjoy music and drinks.
Date: Thursday, 20th November 2025
This event is free for students (with a student ID)!
Registering beforehand is not necessary. Depending on the number of people, students can simply come and visit the exhibition anytime between 9:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. and afterwards, spend the rest of the evening with music and drinks in the Lenbachhaus.
More detailed information will be provided at the end of October / beginning of November!
