Workshop for Intercultural Communication
You are very welcome to contact our co-ordinator for resident tutors by phone or email, thanks a lot.
A workshop for intercultural communication – why?
In order to support our new resident tutors, we offer workshops to improve skills in intercultural communication. It is meant to train intercultural competence, help tutors to deal with intercultural difficulties or friction that might exist in your halls of residence. At the same time, it’s a good opportunity to get to know and get into contact with other tutors.
The workshop also implements the intercultural guidelines (in German) of the Studierendenwerk München Oberbayern.
Tutors are required to participate in one of the workshops. The workshop only needs to be done once, even if a tutor is re-elected.
The workshops are also open for house representatives ("Haussprecher/Haussprecherinnen") – please feel free to get in touch.

Contents of the workshop
What is important when many people from different countries live together? What can I as a tutor/house speaker do to contribute to a good social climate in the halls of residence? What is my role in the case of a conflict?
The workshop aims to enhance intercultural competence with the tutors and house speakers of the Studierendenwerk München Oberbayern. The participating students will develop ideas for an enriching intercultural working and living together, and will discuss how to handle conflicts that may arise in the halls of residence. Simulations, practice, and real-life cases will be other methods used in the workshop.
Besides, the workshop provides the opportunity to meet other tutors, share ideas and experience about being a tutor, talk about possible events and programmes, what works best and how to get people to participate, and so on.
It’s an interactive workshop. Participants are asked to actively contribute with their personal experiences and ideas.
